On this most epic Election Day, following my name of Jesus (which wonderfully, btw, was My Helper – Psalm 118:7) was the answer to my heart cry for this nation.
As believers in Jesus Christ, we have a responsibility to vote according to Biblical standards (especially when it comes to the sanctity of human life), to be involved, and to pray for our government. But we also must remember that our nation’s electoral process is not the be-all and end-all of our HOPE.
Today, right behind Psalm 118:7 were these most comforting words:
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in man.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes.
Psalm 118:8-9
And I remembered what I already knew. What WE already know, but in our being caught up in the moments of Election Day we all may tend to forget:
The fate of this nation does not rest in the hands of the voters today. Nor does it lie in the president elect. The fate of this nation sits solely in the hands of the One True God – The Lord God Almighty. Jesus Christ.
No matter what happens from this moment forward, you and I will be infinitely more better off if we will get serious about seeking and putting our trust in Jesus Christ than in who wins this or any future election. In fact, this is the Word of the Lord to HIS people living in a crooked and perverse generation and it applies to us today as well:
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chron. 2:14
So, my friends, whatever today’s outcome, let’s not be discouraged. As the days loom Spiritually darker, we can rest assured that the Light of Jesus Christ WILL shine brighter than ever before. Because:
“Therefore we do not become discouraged [spiritless, disappointed, or afraid]. Though our outer self is [progressively] wasting away, yet our inner self is being [progressively] renewed day by day. For our momentary, light distress [this passing trouble] is producing for us an eternal weight of glory [a fullness] beyond all measure [surpassing all comparisons, a transcendent splendor and an endless blessedness]! So we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are unseen; for the things which are visible are temporal [just brief and fleeting], but the things which are invisible are everlasting and imperishable.” 2 Cor. 4:16-18 (AMP)
