Hi my friends. Happy Wednesday! I wonder… Today, does anyone need to be reminded of what God is capable of doing in, for, and through your life?
Sometimes it’s easy to forget that God can and does work beyond the laws of nature and what we humans consider the practical. He has not stopped working in miraculous and un-explainable ways. He hasn’t. And I just wanted to remind us all about that today.
I’ve been reading through the Old Testament, and have been struck anew by the various “un-explainable” ways Good worked to solve the problems of the people who served Him. The passage in 2 Kings below is just one example.
If you need a reminder that God CAN and WILL work in ways much higher and a million times better than you could ever dream up or figure out, please let your mind and heart soak in this true story from 2 Kings 4:1-7. The God you serve today is the same God of the past… and somehow, He WILL take care of all of your needs. He promises.
“You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus. Our God and Father abounds in glory that just pours out into eternity. Yes.” Philippians 4:19-20 (Message)
So, my friends… let’s not look for the “how” as much as we look for the Lord. The “how” may never be explained except by the words, “The Lord.”
Now the wife of a son of the prophets cried to Elisha, Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. But the creditor has come to take my two sons to be his slaves.
Elisha said to her, What shall I do for you? Tell me, what have you [of sale value] in the house? She said, Your handmaid has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.
Then he said, Go around and borrow vessels from all your neighbors, empty vessels—and not a few.
And when you come in, shut the door upon you and your sons. Then pour out [the oil you have] into all those vessels, setting aside each one when it is full.
So she went from him and shut the door upon herself and her sons, who brought to her the vessels as she poured the oil.
When the vessels were all full, she said to her son, Bring me another vessel. And he said to her, There is not a one left. Then the oil stopped multiplying.
Then she came and told the man of God. He said, Go, sell the oil and pay your debt, and you and your sons live on the rest.
2 Kings 4:1-7 (AMP)
Let’s break this down for just a sec. So many incredible points can be pulled from this passage – but I just want to make a few quick ones:
1. She and her husband were faithful servants of the Lord – yet they didn’t have a lot, and certainly no extra. But their daily needs had been met. That’s what God promises. They had not yet gone hungry.
2. She sought the Lord’s wisdom and help (through His prophet) with her need.
3. His instructions to her were strange. They made no human sense, and also caused her to involve her neighbors in this strange act. But she didn’t argue with him, or ask for something more simple.
4. She simply TRUSTED and OBEYED exactly what Elisha told her to do.
5. Through this sister’s trust and obedience, God provided for her needs in a miraculous way.
- PLUS, she and her son got to experience God’s glory and and personal care.
- Her neighbors got to participate in God’s powerful work on behalf of this woman.
- Some got to purchase this supernatural oil.
- Everyone around the region got to hear the story of what God had done for this cherished daughter of His.
- And you and I are being encouraged today to remember that God CAN do above all we can ask or imagine when we trust and obey Him.
I pray that someone is encouraged by this reminder today. God is faithful, though His instructions and ways aren’t usually what we would expect. (I’m kind of glad about that, aren’t you? If we could figure Him out, that would be a bit scary to me!) If you’re needing a miraculous provision of any kind today: health-related, financially, time-wise, relationship-related, mentally, physically… etc… May I encourage you to look not for the “how” as much as for the Lord? The “how” may never be explained except by the words, “The Lord.” Then determine to TRUST and OBEY.
If you do that, God will be glorified through YOU, my friends, and many lives will be touched, blessed, and encouraged through your point of need, God’s glorious provision, and your obedience. 🙂
What a Mighty God we serve~
