Hi friends~ Hope you’re off to a great week! We had such a good time with our friends this weekend. Our tour of The Help filming sites proved to be an… uh…an adventure… to say the least! We got some good pictures and had a lot of laughs, but we almost got into a little danger as we were scoping some neighborhoods looking for Abileen Clark’s and Minnie’s homes. (Unfortunately, we never found them, and none of us felt like taking a third go-around in some of the not-so-safe-feeling neighborhoods.) Stephanie said that in Williamsburg, VA, we would be called “tourons” (like moron tourists). Haha. Everybody in town knew what we were doing. Strangers holding maps and creeping slowly along the streets in a car with Nashville tags , posing for pictures in front of the town’s buildings… yep… definitely “tourons.” But it sure was fun. 😉
The two places we saw that looked most authentic to the movie were Hilly Holbrook’s house and the Leefolt home. See for yourself:

And can’t you just see Abileen walking away from this home at the end of the movie as Mae Mobley cries “Abie… Abie… Abie”?
As for some other buildings, they used the courthouse as the scene of the Benefit Ball when Hilly learned that her mom was the one who had purchased the auctioned pie. And they used the Garden Club house as the Junior League building (pictured below).
This is the bookstore used for the “Avent and Clark” bookstore where Skeeter’s book was on display (and that’s my friend, Stephanie)~
It was a fun tour. I want to go back one of these days and find the homes we missed. But next time, I think I’ll try to sweet talk some husbands who are familiar with Greenville to go along and drive! 😉
My original plan for the weekend was a fully Pinterest-planned event. I was going to only serve Pinterest-found recipes, and we were going to do some Pinterest-discovered crafts. But time got away from us and we decided that we’d rather visit than craft, and we took the easy way out on a few menues. But we did try several new recipes, and this one was my favorite of the bunch.

Cowboy Caviar!
2 cans Mexicorn (I couldn’t find this, so I used regular corn and some cumin spices)
1 can Rotel tomatoes
2 cups shredded cheddar
6 green onions (sliced)
1 cup mayo
1 cup sour cream.
I added a little Paula Deen’s Seasoning to the recipe.
Mix together and serve with corn chips or tortilla chips. The longer it sits in the fridge, the better it tastes.
My sister found this recipe on Pinterest and made it for mom and me when we visited her in Birmingham a few weeks ago. It was so delish that I pinned it and planned to make it asap. I think you’ll like it, too. 🙂
Speaking of my sister… If you think of it, please be praying for her family this week. Their house is being packed up Monday and Tuesday, loaded Wednesday, and then they pull out on their move from Birmingham, AL to Denver, CO. They are so excited. But I know that leaving a place loved, even if going to a new and exciting place, will be a grieving process for them. And for us. I’m already missing knowing that they’re just an afternoon’s drive away from my mom’s house. But we all have the ability to visit via Facetime on our ipads, so we’ll try to see each other as much as we can.
