Spring is here (at least here in the South) and my closets are crying out to be changed! It’s a ritual I go through twice a year, and it’s something I actually look forward to. (I’ll post my systematic closet change-out ritual tomorrow.)
The first step of my seasonal wardrobe change starts with checking out the trends for the upcoming season(s). On a whole, this year’s Spring and Summer trends are some of my favorites, totally wearable, and take us back to the 1980’s! I’m an “Eighties Lady,” y’all, and can totally rock the “walking shorts” and those jackets with shoulder pads! 😉 I can’t wait!
One trend that I am sad about is the “cut out” trend – where the tops are short and midriffs are showing. I remember this from the mid 80’s when I was a teenager, but now that I’m a mom of a teen girl AND a teen boy, I’m not too thrilled about this trend. Modesty dictates this a no-go in our home. However, every other trend is totally doable, and if you happen to have saved one or two special pieces of clothing from years past, you’ll most likely be able to pull them out and make use of them this year.
Oh… and for those of you who secretly have leather (or “pleather”) leggings tucked away in the back of your closets… this is your chance~! Get those babies out and squeeze into them and go for it. This is your chance! Unfortunately, I won’t be joining you. But, hey, you just rock what you’ve got!
Without further ado, I present to you the Trends for Spring and Summer 2013!
Bermuda Shorts (Yay!)
“The slouchy, cool-girl shorts that were all over the New York runways this season are perfect for every girl who never felt like she could pull off those cheek-baring cutoffs so beloved on Instagram (i.e., most of us). They’re ultra chic, fam-friendly, and flattering; seriously, what’s not to love?” (from Elle)
Black and White (another Yay!)
Bold Stripes
Suit Shorts (gladly any length works)
Lace, lovely & so feminine
Pastels
Florals (Some of these are a little “Laura Ashley-ish” – which I love!)
Chambray Denim
Flats and Low Heels (whoo-hoo!)
“90s pointy heels are back and have been modernized with everything from dainty ankle straps to cylindrical heels. There will always be a moment for four-inch pumps, but these ladylike heels are such a nice option to have on hand. Extra cool points if you wear them with slouchy boyfriend jeans or Bermuda shorts to brunch with the girls.” Elle
To sum it all up…
Did you find something that you already have in your closet? Come back tomorrow and I’ll share how the Lord helps me stay “fashion forward” on a tiny-to-almost-nothing-budget. 🙂 See you then~
