This seasoning is one of the easiest things to throw together, and it can be used on almost everything! My family has come to depend on it, and when we run out, the kids always want to know when I’m making more. It’s Paula Deen’s House Seasoning mix. 3 ingredients: salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. How easy is that? Want to make your own?
Ingredients
1/4 cup black pepper
1/4 cup garlic powder
Directions
Yep. That’s it. We use it on everything from eggs to meat (both cooked and in the marinating stage) to vegetables (both cooked and fresh). It also makes a great hostess gift. If you’ll save your garlic powder and other seasoning bottles with larger shaker holes, you can fill them with the house seasoning mix, add a tag, and you end up with a great little “happy” for a friend.
In writing about salt, I couldn’t help but think of a few facts and Biblical truths that go well with this seasoning salt.
Salt is/was used in many cultures as a symbol of wisdom and knowledge.
Salt is a taste enhancer.
Salt is a necessary mineral for the body.
Salt can lose it’s “saltiness” only by becoming contaminated
Salt makes people thirsty for water.
Notice any symbolism here???
God’s Word tells us:
Let your speech at all times be gracious (pleasant and winsome), seasoned [as it were] with salt, [so that you may never be at a loss] to know how you ought to answer anyone [who puts a question to you]. Colossians 4:6, Amplified
Use your heads as you live and work among outsiders. Don’t miss a trick. Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out. Colossians 4:5-6 The Message
Mark 9:50 says that “Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.” NKJV
And one more:
“Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth.” Matthew 5:13 The Message
When we are seasoned with Holy salt, we will be enhanced with God’s wisdom and others will taste and become thirsty for God’s Living Water! And, we will live in such a way that we bring out the best in others. So… let’s season our food with Paula Deen’s House Seasoning, and our lives with God’s Word. 🙂

PS: I’m flying to Redmond, Oregon today, and am so excited to serve the Lord and the ladies in a weekend retreat “way out there”! If this blog or I (or the phrase “smelling coffee”) comes to your mind, and you’d be so inclined, I sure would appreciate the prayer coverage for the entire weekend – for myself, the ladies, and my family. I fly home on Monday night. While I’m gone, I’m re-posting a few favorite blog posts. Much love and many thanks in advance to and for you all~
