Scripture ON my hand = the Sword IN my hand

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the precious prayers you have lifted up on our behalf about our house selling! Tuesday morning I was petitioning the Lord (with prayer and tears) and reminding Him of what we “need” and of our pending timetable. {Of course, He does NOT need to be reminded… !} And I (almost) audibly heard Him say to me these words: “Do you trust Me?”

I quickly replied much like Peter did when Jesus asked him, “Do you love Me?”, and said, “Of course I trust You.” I heard Him ask me again… “Do you trust Me?” I thought about it for a moment and then replied, “Yes, Lord, You know that I trust You.” He asked one more time, “Do. you. trust. Me?”. I thought about how my actions were not matching my words, and with a broken heart, I humbly said, “Yes Lord, I do trust You. I do.”

And in that “Daddy tone” (you know the one I’m talking about… gentle, but firm, and said in a way that you know you better obey if you know what’s good for you…) in that tone He said, “Then act like it!”

Right along with those words, I immediately flashed back to my earthly Daddy and how he would say, “Then buck up”. So in obedience to my two Dads, I “bucked up”. I even sat up straighter in my seat. The Child Warrior within me arose, and I put away the tears, and I determined to trust God.

Then I did what I do often when I need a physical reminder of something the Lord has called me to do… I wrote it on my hand.

Because I use my hands a lot when I talk, I see what’s written on my palm often.  I’ve done this many, many times.  [BTW: You know, Isaiah 49:16 tells us that God has imprinted US – you and me – on the palm of His hand.  “Behold, I have indelibly imprinted (tattooed a picture of) you on the palm of each of My hands; [O Zion] your walls are continually before Me.”  Think of how often we are on His mind… since He’s omniscient, it’s all. the. time!]

Anyway, I started taking pictures to remind me of the crucial truths I carried around with me for a day or two.  Here are a few others from trials gone by:

Psalm 57:5  “Be exalted, O God. Let your glory be over all the earth!”  This was at a time when I knew that the only way victory would be had would be because the Lord did it, and only He could receive the glory for it.  After I wrote it, I found Psalm 60:12 which added another important Truth to remember: “Through God we shall do valiantly, for He it is Who shall tread down our adversaries.”

When I needed a reminder to not lose hope, this verse on my hand gave me great strength every time I saw it.  “But I will hope continually and will yet praise you more and more.”  Psalm 78:14.

I have others, but you get the picture… (ha ha – no pun intended)!
Keeping Scripture on my hand is literally holding the Sword of the Spirit IN my hand!  I wish you could know the difference it has made in my walk with the Lord.  If you are in need of some constant reminders of the Lord’s Words to you for your specific day’s situations, you should try it.
From experience, I can tell you that a ball point pen lasts the longest – much longer than a sharpie marker.  But my consistant problem is that I write these things during my quiet time, THEN, go wash my hair, face, dishes, etc… so I usually have to trace over it before I ever leave the house. 
Scripture on my hand has been quite a wittnessing tool, as well.  I love it when someone asks me what’s on my hand.  Usually they need to hear the encouragement just as much as I needed it.  God kind of works things out that way doesn’t He?
Speaking of “needing encouragement”, Tuesday morning when I was bemoaning to the Lord, I was scrolling down my blog looking for something when I saw my own words in the link boxes below a post that said, “If you need some encouragement today.”  I did, so I clicked over to the post I wrote this past November and read those incredibly powerful scriptures.  The whole post is just Scripture, one after the other, full of the Wonder-Working Power of the Holy Word.  I was encouaged all over again… so much so that I left myself my own comment!  🙂  If you need some extra encouragement, you might find some there for you, too, my friends.

I sure do love and appreciate you… Thank you for bowing on our behalf and asking the Lord to sell this house.  WHEN He does, you will have had a part in His work, and He will be even more glorified.

  1. That is so cool!! I write reminders on my hand sometimes, but have never thought of writing scripture! 🙂

  2. Love this idea…. It's so hard to figure out a great place to write those verses that jump out in our reading. I've tried journals, sticky notes, etc. But LOVE this idea for what to do with that verse that speaks to TODAY! 🙂

    I hope you are doing great…. I know that you are such an obedient Sister in Christ. And, it's an honor to watch your journey this past year…. but I also am so sad it's been the struggle for you all that it has been. I hate that we only ge to visit through these computers, and wish we lived closer! 🙂 I fail to make consistent time to blog and feel I miss too much….

    But whether I'm online or not, just know that you are on my heart to stay & I'm thankful for your friendship! Be blessed today my Friend.

  3. I love it! I use my hand when I do not have anything else handy around to write on. Pretty intentional esp. with the verse that we are written on His hand.

It is so easy to encourage you and to pray earnestly for you and your situation yet having the same struggle within myself. Time to buck up myself, stand on the Word and HIS promises and walk this out with LORD! trusting HIM every step of the way!

  8. I have not written the Word on my hand but I do put sticky notes with verses all over the place!! Might try my hand next time I really need to remember the Word. I talk with my hands too so I would see it often as well!! I have been praying for your house to sell too. Isn't technology just something else. I live thousands of miles from you, in Alberta, Canada, yet I can talk to the Lord about your need because of the internet!! I love it!!
