The one thing we didn’t do this year was make snow cream. Every other snow season I’ve attempted it, but unfortunately, it never turns out well. I make up a new recipe every year, and we eat it because its tradition. I decided to be merciful and not put my family through that ordeal again this year…Then someone posted Paula Deen’s Snow Cream recipe on FB. Who knew? By the time I saw her recipe – which I’m sure is delish, our snow had accumulated quite a few “yellow” spots (know what I mean?) and I lost my appetite. If we ever get another snow like this one, the first thing I’m going to do is to grab some fresh WHITE snow and make her recipe for snow cream.
So… In the spirit of sharing a great recipe, I’m passing on this P.D.snow cream recipe to my friends who might have snow again this year… and to those who live with it throughout the winter (most, of whom I’m the sure, already have a great snow cream recipe they could pass to the rest of us.) Enjoy… and remember… stay away from the yellow snow. 😉
Paula Deen’s Snow Cream Recipe
8 cups snow, or shaved ice
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

WELL I CAN TELL YOU THAT AS A LITTLE GIRL MY MOM WOULD ALWAYS MAKE US SNOW CREAM BUT THEN AGAIN THE AIR THE SEA AND THE LAND WERE MUCH MUCH CLEANER …..I TOO LIVE IN A PART OF OUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY WHERE THE TEMPERATURES ARE ALWAYS WAY BELOW FREEZING ( 10 RIGHT NOW )& WE ALWAYS HAVE A HEAPING FOOT OR SO OF SNOW THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE WINTER ( WELL MAYBE FROM JANUARY THROUGH THE BEGINNING OF MARCH ) AS MATTER OF FACT THIS MORNING WE HAD 10 INCHES …… I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOO READY FOR SPRING ALREADY !! BUT I AM HAPPY FOR YOU AS YOU HARDLY EVER SEE GODS WHITE COTTON BLANKET ….HOPE YOU ENJOY IT AND I HOPE IT STAYS AROUND YOUR TOWN FOR A WHILE !!

Hooray!! for snow…well, for snow days!! and coffee shops that stay open…and fun, leisurely days spent together with the fam:) Sounds like fun!! and I've never tried snow cream – that I can remember – but it won't happen this week. Our snow was rather puny – but I am NOT complaining! Enjoy:)

I have never heard of snow cream either, but I'm glad I stoped by your blog so I could read about it. I wish adults had snow days from work. Or even a 2 hour delay some days. 🙂 thanks for posting!
Lynn~ you've GOT to try it! Its a tradition in places where snow is a rare "gift". Its funny how we view things differently according to what is "normal". I can't imagine living in snow on a daily basis. I guess it does lose its "sparkle" after a while.

I have lived all my life where we get lots of snow and never heard of Snow Cream. Interesting, not sure if I'll try it or not but found it funny that here, where snow is not as welcome as yours but always here every winter, you know about a dessert I have not heard about!!:-)
