Thank You Lord, for this country, the freedoms we so often take for granted, and the men, women, parents, children, & loved ones who willingly laid down their lives and dreams on behalf of this nation. O Lord, may we turn our faces back to You~
... the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Christ in every place...
Following so much devastation in the midwest, I feel almost heartless in posting something so trivial as dumb or funny pictures. I almost didn’t write this post because I know that across our nation there are many who are drowning in grief. But then I thought of the most amazing truth of all… in the midst of my own personal deepest grief, there was always something that could make me smile: the fact that no matter what ~ God was and is still on His throne. I may not like what He has allowed. I may have my feelings deeply hurt because He didn’t rescue me or my loved ones, but the fact that no man or force of nature will EVER overcome Him… that is a reason to press our lips together and lift the corners of our mouths, even if tears are streaming down our faces.
Hebrews 13:5 and it’s promise:
I am praying for all of you who are suffering right now… for those of you highlighted on the news, and for those of you who are going through your own private battles – dear ones who feel like you are hanging on by a thread and can’t imagine HOW God will come through for you and work it all out for good.
For this encouragement and food from God’s Word:

About the tornado victims of the mid-west:
For some practical advice from a natural disaster survivor of how you can help when tragedy strikes an area, this is a wonderful first-hand list of ways to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the coming days.
And if you are miles away from being physical help, you can share your financial resources – you’d be surprised at what $10 can do… I personally know people who work with this organization and know that every designated dollar given is used in it’s designated ministry. Southern Baptist Disaster Relief works alongside the Red Cross. They are the ones in the yellow shirts, hats, and jackets. You’ve seen them on the news at every disaster – silently and effectively working not for the praise of man but to the glory of God. Through them, we can all be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Who around you needs a loving touch of the Lord Jesus today? Wherever we are is no cosmic accident. We are where we are for such a time as this. And somehow, whether we are in the midst of our own devastation or are a witness to someone else’s, God will use the willing hands, feet, hearts, and wallets of the Body of Christ to create beauty from ashes. This truth… it makes me smile. 🙂
Praying with you and for you~
This weekend, many in our community will be remembering a very special lady ~ one who moved from this temporal earthy life to Heaven last May 19th. I think of her and miss her every day. So in honor of my sweet friend, Cheryl, I am reposting the eulogy I was blessed to write and share at her funeral. If you knew Cheryl Marchant, may this posting bring a sweet smile to your heart as you remember this most precious friend. I can’t help but think of how my Daddy & Cheryl and so many others are enjoying True Life as they wait on us to join them. Lets let the testimony of their lives remind us to make the most of every day while we have it! May God bless the loved ones of Cheryl on this first anniversary of her death.
With much love to each of you~
Today, we gather to celebrate the life of our dearly loved Cheryl Ann Thomas Marchant. Cheryl had an impact on literally countless lives. All of us who love Cheryl are happy for her and for the health and peace she is experiencing today, but we deeply grieve her absence and the huge hole left in our hearts without her.
Her family wanted me to express their deep gratitude to each of you. For the last 19 years, the outpouring of your love has sustained their family through many trying times. There are not enough thank you notes in the world to express the peace that you, Cheryl’s church and community family, have given to Stacy, Brett, and Bill as you have stepped in so many times and filled rolls that were too big for the immediate family to fill. Cheryl had a huge family in Christ and community and her immediately family’s lives have been enriched by you. They thank you deeply for all you have done, and for all you will continue to do in the days to come. You have blessed this family, and you have blessed Cheryl.
And Cheryl has blessed us. Each one of us could stand here and share how our lives have been blessed, affected, or changed by Cheryl Marchant. She had a distinct personality and passion for living, and was what Mr. Fred Rogers would call an extraordinary ordinary person.
In thinking about Cheryl and her life, six adjectives come to mind. One for each letter in her name.C – Compassionate toward everyone. Cheryl was merciful and a giver of many chances and extra opportunities, even when others would say that those second, third, and forth chances were not deserved. She insisted on finding and believing the best about you and me and every person in her life.
H – Helpful to anyone who needed help. She thrived on helping, fixing, and micro-managing others. 😉 From the day we met, God melded our hearts and she took an interest in my life. Cheryl appointed herself my mother (as she called me her third daughter), my agent (she was always trying to get me “speaking invitations” ), my adviser (she often began her conversations to me with “Here’s what you need to do…”), my connection-maker (as in, “Come over here. I want you to meet…”), my “fixer” of whatever she thought needed fixing. I know I’m not alone in that aspect! Cheryl has probably been your “mother”, “agent”, “adviser”, “connection mKer” and “fixer” too!
She tirelessly helped those who rented from her, and those who didn’t, those new in town, and those who have lived here all of their lives. If a need was brought to Cheryl, she did everything within her power and influence to help make it better. I’m sure she has probably pulled many of you into her schemes of helping people. What Cheryl told us to do, we did it, didn’t we?
E – Entrepreneur. Was she ever! Cheryl built a successful business, one rental property at a time. She invested both her heart and her hands in each home, and has provided shelter for hundreds of people over the years. In addition to loving her rental business, Cheryl said that the jobs of teaching her classes at Hayes Cooper and caring for her husband and grandchildren were among her greatest joys. In watching her life, none of us could fully understand HOW she was able to do it all!
R – Resilient. Only the Lord knows how many times Cheryl beat the odds. With each challenge God allowed to touch her life, she responded with both faith and fight. A weaker person would have given in to self-pity, but not Cheryl. She kept fighting and trying to “manage” and “plan” her life and ours – right until the last day.
Y – Youthful. Cheryl had a young zest for life. She certainly didn’t “act her age” – and that was a beautiful thing. Ever young at heart, Cheryl loved to laugh, visit, shop, entertain, and have fun! She never met a stranger, did she? Cheryl was known for her super bowl parties and was always planning a “get together” of some kind. She loved to do crazy things to make other people laugh. Some of you are smiling now, as you think of something funny that you and Cheryl shared.
L – Loved. Cheryl was deeply loved by her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, friends, church family, and community. One of her brothers said that Cheryl was the wealthiest person in the world, if you counted her portfolio of friends. We loved her, and she loved us – and we knew it. Most of all, she was and is loved by her Savior, Jesus Christ – and she is enjoying His presence this very moment.
She will be greatly missed – but Cheryl’s life is not over. It’s really only just begun. And those of us who know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior will see Cheryl again one day.
I want to close with some Truth from Scripture that we all need to remember today, and in the days to come. This passage is from 1 Corinthians 15 in the Message Translation:“But let me tell you something wonderful, a mystery I’ll probably never fully understand. We’re not all going to die—but we are all going to be changed. You hear a blast… from a trumpet, and in the time that you look up and blink your eyes—it’s over… the dead will be up and out of their graves… never to die again. At the same moment and in the same way, we’ll all be changed. In the resurrection scheme of things, this has to happen: everything perishable taken off the shelves and replaced by the imperishable, this mortal replaced by the immortal. Then the saying will come true:
Death swallowed by triumphant Life!” 1 Cor. 15:51-55
And from 2 Corinthians 4, we are encouraged to remember:
“So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.” 2 Cor. 4:17-18
We say Goodbye for now, dear Cheryl. We love you and will see you again one of these days. But for today, we entrust you to the arms of Jesus… who loves you most of all.

UPDATE: Anna Beth is out of surgery & all is well. Things were more complicated than they predicted, but she will recover with a healthy heart! We see that God has protected her all of these years and are full of gratitude for that & and for your prayers.
This is my darling niece, Anna Beth. And she sure could use your prayers. On Friday she will be having heart surgery.
Anna Beth is my sister’s youngest daughter, and she is one little bitty great big bundle of joy! They moved to Colorado last summer and because of the high altitude, it was discovered that a valve in her heart never closed at birth. She will be having surgery at the children’s hospital in Aurora at 8 AM (MST). Anna Beth and her family have the Lord’s Peace over the situation, and feel so grateful that this problem was discovered. However, we sure would covet your prayers; prayers for the doctors, operating room, her siblings as they wait and worry, and especially her parents as they watch their baby girl be rolled into the operating room. If you would join our family on this front, we would be ever so grateful! I will hop on and give an update after the surgery.
And as long as I’m asking, would you please pray for me too? I am speaking at a ladies event on Saturday and am asking God to speak through me and send forth His Word to revive and heal hearts as He calls His own to a deeper intimacy with Him. 🙂
Thank you so much for lifting up my family and me. I pray so often for you ~ The Lord keeps you on my mind. Many blessings of the Lord to you, my friends~
We don’t normally think of this part of the Christmas story… But it is true. And it “just so happened” that in my QT yesterday, The Lord reminded me of this fact. The enemy has ever been present & continues to seek to steal, kill, & destroy that Abundant Life Jesus came to give (John 10:10).
When King Herod learned from the Wise Men that a baby “King” had been born, he lied, telling them to be sure and let him know where this baby was, so that Herod could also go and worship. But like satan, Herod’s goal was to garner ALL worship for himself. He really wanted that Baby-King dead.
When the Wise Men were warned in a dream not to return to Herod, jealous, paranoid King Herod calculated the possible age of the Christ-Child and ORDERED EVERY BABY BOY 2 YEARS AND YOUNGER TO BE KILLED! Can you imagine???
The grief!!! The shock!!! The torment!!! The mothers whose nursing sons were ripped from their breasts… The grieving fathers helpless to “fix” their tortured families… The brothers & sisters unable to comprehend the disappearance of their siblings, or the depth of their parents’ suffering…
“Herod, when he realized that the scholars had tricked him, flew into a rage. He commanded the murder of every little boy two years old and under who lived in Bethlehem and its surrounding hills. (He determined that age from information he’d gotten from the scholars.) That’s when Jeremiah’s sermon was fulfilled: A sound was heard in Ramah, weeping and much lament. Rachel weeping for her children, Rachel refusing all solace, Her children gone, dead and buried.” Matthew 2:16-18, Message (The reference for this Old Testament Prophesy is Jeremish 31:15)
… Sounds much like what the loved ones in Newtown, Connecticut {and many unnamed others around the globe} are going through this Christmas season.
Oh God, have mercy! Pour Grace! Carry with Comfort! As we focus on Your Advent – may we celebrate mostly Your next coming ~ when You will rescue us from the evil of this world and when we will live forever in Your glorious presence! You will come, Lord Jesus. We believe You. And until You do, we thank You in advance for making good on ALL of Your promises to Your people.
We love You, Jesus. We need You, Mighty Savior. Come quickly, Lord Jesus. Come… So be it.
“Listen to me, my people.
Hear me, Israel,
for my law will be proclaimed,
and my justice will become a light to the nations.
My mercy and justice are coming soon.
My salvation is on the way.
My strong arm will bring justice to the nations.
All distant lands will look to me
and wait in hope for my powerful arm.
Look up to the skies above,
and gaze down on the earth below.
For the skies will disappear like smoke,
and the earth will wear out like a piece of clothing.
The people of the earth will die like flies,
but my salvation lasts forever.
My righteous rule will never end!
