If you are in or around the Cleveland, MS area, we would LOVE for you to put these dates on your calendar and join us for one, two, three, or ALL of the upcoming activities we have planned for the next few months. We are really excited about each one of them, and know that each time we gather, we will be blessed, and God will be glorified!
January 26 5 pm – The Calvary Road book club meets. It’s a short devotional style book, so there is still time to read (or even begin to read) and join in. We will meet at FBC Cleveland in room 105.
The week of February 9 will begin our Ladies Bible Classes. We are offering two studies and three meeting times (Sunday nights, Wednesday nights, and Tuesday mornings):
STRONGER: Finding Hope in Fragile Places – Through Biblical teaching and real life application, daily homework, and weekly DVDs, Angela Thomas teaches that women don’t need to live in weakness. Learn to break life-long patterns of defeat and despair, remove paralyzing inner anxiousness, put an end to the self-focused distractions of striving, comparison, and performance, and smile at the uncertain future. We can do this, not because we are stronger, but because Christ in us is stronger than all of our needs.COST: $13.00 Books can be purchased at the first class meeting.
MEETS: Sunday nights at 5 pm – Leader: Elizabeth Stallworth
Wednesday nights at 6 pm – Leader: Marcia Horton
TRUE WOMAN 101: Divine Design – What does it mean to be God’s woman? The current cultural model of womanhood hasn’t delivered the happiness and fulfillment it promised. The Bible teaches that God created male and female for a very specific purpose and that His design isn’t arbitrary or unimportant. It is very intentional and He wants women to discover, embrace, and delight in the beauty of His design. He’s looking for True Women! Bible teachers Mary A. Kassian and Nancy Leigh DeMoss share the key fundamentals of biblical womanhood in this eight week study. Each week includes five daily lessons leading to a group time of sharing and digging deeper into God’s Word.
COST: $20.00 Books can be purchased at the first class meeting.
MEETS: Sunday nights at 5pm – Leader: Jennifer Walker
Wednesday nights at 6pm – Leader: Jennifer Walker
Tuesday mornings at 10am {Nursery provided}– Leader: Charlotte Dye
Book Clubs – called “Girl Talk” will meet at the end of each month. We will gather in homes for dessert and discussion, fun, and fellowship.
This year, we will offer one or two book selections a month to be obtained and read on your own. Then we’ll gather at someone’s home and fellowship over dessert and discussion. These are the books selected for the next few months. Each are WONDERFUL, and I just can’t say enough about them!
**If you aren’t in the Cleveland, MS area, but still want to read these books with us, please do! I’ll open a blog post each month where we can have an online discussion here, and you can be included in that way. 🙂
February “Girl Talk” Books: (We have two this month. One if you are seeking to improve your marriage via a fun read, and one if you just want to read a remarkable book that reminds you of how loved you are by the Father. If you have time, both would be blessings!)
Wife School, by Julie Gordon.
This self-help marriage book is a laugh-out-loud story in which the bratty and abrasive protagonist, Jessica-who thinks her marriage is beyond repair-learns the secrets to grow a satisfying and soul-stirring marriage. After learning the principles in Wife School, women have found their marriages revolutionized. Affection and closeness take a quantum leap. This remarkable progress occurs because Wife School teaches women what their husbands want and need at a deep soul level, making the husband outrageously happy. Enroll now with Jessica in Wife School, and embark on a journey that will transform your marriage beyond what you can imagine.
I have read and worked through this book, and it has been a true blessing to my marriage. I love and appreciate my husband more because I’ve now been to Wife School, too. 🙂
Wife School can be purchased in book form here, and in e-book form here.
The Wife School “Girl Talk” Group will gather for dessert and discussion on Thursday, February 27, 7 pm, at the home of Judy Tranum.
Redeeming Love, by Francine Rivers
In this splendid retelling of the biblical story of Hosea, bestselling author Francine Rivers pens a heartbreaking romance between a prostitute and the upright and kind farmer who marries her; the story also functions as a reminder of God’s unconditional love for his people. A powerful retelling of the story of Gomer and Hosea, Redeeming Love is a life-changing story of God’s unconditional, redemptive, all-consuming love.
Redeeming Love can be purchased in book form here, and in e-book form here.
The Redeeming Love “Girl Talk” Group will gather for dessert and discussion on Tuesday, February 25, 7:00 pm at the home of Debbie Robison.
If you read both, we hope you’ll join both groups! {And if you didn’t read either, you are still welcome to come and fellowship with us. ;-)}
March “Girl Talk” Book:
Wonderstruck, Awaken to the Nearness of God, by Margaret Feinberg
Has your sense of splendor and delight faded with the demands of modern living? What can we do when holy awe is replaced by unholy indifference? When hope is diminished to a manageable emotion? When love becomes a fleeting expression in short supply?
In Wonderstruck, Margaret invites us to toss back the covers, climb out of bed, and drink in the fullness of life. We’ll learn to unearth the extraordinary moments in every day life, recognize the presence of God in the midst of our routine, and discover peace in knowing we’re wildly loved. We will find it is possible to regain the missing spark of mystery in the day-to-day. Winsome yet compelling, whimsical yet profound, the stories from Wonderstruck will inspire us to fall in love anew with God.Wonderstruck can be purchased here in book form, and here in e-book form.
The Wonderstruck “Girl Talk” Group will gather for dessert and discussion on Thursday, March 27, 7:00 pm at the home of Beverly MacWilliams.
Spring Ladies’ Event – We will be “EASELY AMUSED” in the Delta! Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 29 (10 am – 1 pm) because Easely Amused will be coming to our church, and we’ll be painting a “Delta scene.” {Don’t worry if you’re not an artist – you’ll be amazed at what you can do when you follow some simple instructions!} The cost is $30, and you can pay and register at this link: Easely Amused March 29, FBC Cleveland
Below is a group that went to the Easely Amused studio in Jackson earlier this month. Few of us claimed to be artists, but each of us left with a beautiful painting. It’s the most unique fun! So save the date and plan to join us for painting, encouragement, fellowship, and a light lunch!
Watch for details coming soon about these other studies, books, and events:
- Late Spring Bible Study – Missing Pieces by Jennifer Rothschild
- Future Girl Talk Books on parenting and joy
- Trip to Biloxi, MS to attend Beth Moore’s Living Proof Live event June 27-29.
We pray that you’ll join us for one or ALL of these activities… Our goal in everything we do is for God to Empower, Encourage, and Equip women for His use and glory (Col. 2:2).
I want their hearts to be encouraged and joined together in love, so that they may have all the riches of assured understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery–Christ. Col. 2:2
May the Lord bless each of you as you continue to grow in Jesus Christ~
