For years, I’ve been looking for “the one”… The no-fail-super-delicious-everyone-asks-for-the-recipe-chocolate chip cookie… and the age of 42, I think I’ve finally found it! I stumbled upon it by accident, thinking it was a recipe I had made before. It wasn’t, but it’s one I’ll be making from now on. I tweaked the recipe (that’s secret code for “made it easier”) and am pleased with how they turned out. They look great in this old jar we found in our attic… (I try to keep it on the counter, filled with some kind of goodie). Hope they turn out as well for you. 🙂
PS: This recipe makes a lot.
Chocolate Chip & Oatmeal Cookies
2 sticks margarine, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups all purpose flour
½ tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
2 ½ cups quick-cooking oats
12 oz chocolate chips
(Optional – Up to 2 cups chopped pecans and/or 1 4oz milk chocolate bar, grated)
In a large mixing bowl, cream margarine and sugars at med speed until light and fluffy. Add eggs & vanilla. Mix (directions say “sift” – but I never do) flour, salt, baking powder, and soda, then add to mixing bowl. Add oats and chocolate chips (and optional ingredients if desired) a cup at a time.
Drop batter by rounded tablespoonfuls at least 2 inches apart onto lightly greased baking sheets. Bake at 375 for 6-8 minutes. Cool and enjoy.

It's been awhile since I've visited. Homeschooling, work and family life has kept me busy. I am enjoying my visit here today. Your home looks so lovely!

This is perfect for our movie marathon this weekend. I think a glass of hot milk or a hot coffee is the best combination for these cookies.
I love that old jar! What a sweet idea to keep it on the counter full of goodies! Those cookies look great!
Hey Girl! I LOVE oatmeal chocolate chip cookies….. and am totally trying your recipe this weekend. Thanks for linking up! I hope you and your family have a great weekend!!! PS ~ So glad we are both doing the Siesta Memory Verses this year! I'm ready to go tomorrow for verse #2. 🙂 My 1st verse is "Forget the former things; Do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; Do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." Isaiah 43:18-19 {I did that to test myself:-)} Love to you Friend…
