“She will bear a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus [the Greek form of the Hebrew Joshua, which means Savior], for He will save His people from their sins [that is, prevent them from failing and missing the rue end and scope of life, which is God.]
All this took place that it might be fulfilled which the Lord had spoken through the prophet,
Behold, the virgin shall become pregnant and give birth to a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel – which, when translated means, God with us.”
Matthew 1:20-23 (Amp)
700 years earlier, the prophet Isaiah had written about this very promise in Isaiah 7:14: “Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; Behold, the young woman who is unmarried and a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel [God with us].”
The Hebrew spells this beautiful truth Immanuel while the Greek spells it Emmanuel, but it’s meaning remains the same:
Im = ‘with’
anu = ‘us’
el = ‘God’
How beautiful is that? The Promise made and fulfilled in Jesus Christ is that He is not only God enthroned in Heaven, but With-Us-God in every day life. In the moments when we need Him most, and in those times of rebellion when we hope He isn’t aware of us at all, in loneliness, in celebrations, in obedience, in hard places, in busyness, in rest… Jesus Christ is “With Us God”
We aren’t alone, even if we temporarily think we’d rather be. This is the Priceless Gift of Christmas… God With Us because He loves us so.
What do you need on this Christmas Day and weekend? Whatever it is, its deepest roots stem from and are met in Christ, alone.
“…you shall call His name Jesus
[the Greek form of the Hebrew Joshua, which means Savior],
for He will save His people from their sins
[that is, prevent them from failing and missing
the true end and scope of life, which is God.]”
Matthew 1:20, Amp.
Jesus… With Us God…
A Very Merry Christmas from our household to yours ~
