Hi everyone~ If you’re near the Cleveland, MS area, we would LOVE to have you join us in reading and fellowshipping over these books at the end of the month! And if you’re not so close-by? Maybe you could get some friends together and host your own fellowship discussion group over these excellent reads.
I’d venture to say that many of you have already read these two books – one is widely popular, and one has been around for a long time… but both lend themselves to such great discussion that they’d be worth reading again! So… without further ado, these are the April book club books we will be reading:
Lysa TerKeurst admits that she, like most women, has experiences where others bump into her happy and she comes emotionally unglued. We stuff, we explode, or react somewhere in between.
What do we do with these raw emotions? Is it really possible to make emotions work for us instead of against us? Yes, and in her usual inspiring and practical way, Lysa will show you how.
Filled with personal examples and Biblical teaching,
Unglued will equip you to:
- Know with confidence how to resolve conflict in your
important relationships. - Find peace in your most difficult relationships as you learn to be
honest but kind when offended. - Identify what type of reactor you are and how to significantly
improve your communication. - Respond with no regrets by managing your tendencies to stuff,
explode or react somewhere in between. - Gain a deep sense of calm by responding to situations out of your control without acting out of control.
(The above is reprinted from Lysa Turkeurst’s website)
You can borrow the book from a library or friend, or purchase your copy via Amazon (or other book sites or Christian book stores, if you’re blessed enough to have one in your area.)

AND… if you’re not worried about coming unglued anytime soon, you might enjoy reading book one of the wonderful Francine Rivers series The Mark of the Lion.
This series has been around a long time. In fact, my box looks more like this:
““The city was silently bloating in the hot sun, rotting like the thousands of bodies that lay where they had fallen in street battles.” With this opening sentence, A Voice in the Wind transports readers back to Jerusalem during the first Jewish-Roman War, some seventy years after the death of Christ.
Following the prides and passions of a group of Jews, Romans and Barbarians living at the time of the siege, the narrative is centered on an ill-fated romance between a steadfast slave girl, Hadassah, and Marcus, the brother of her owner and a handsome aristocrat. After surviving the massacre of her family and the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans, Hadassah is captured and sold to a well-to-do merchant’s family. Brought to Rome, she is pressed into service as a personal slave to hedonistic Julia Valerian.
Hadassah struggles to walk in the footsteps of Jesus and to treat her masters in a manner in keeping with His teachings, but she is forced to keep her religious identity a secret in order to survive. Confused and alone, she has only her faith to cling to as she tries to subtly bring God into the lives of her captors. Reckless, impulsive, and villainous, Julia tries to undermine Hadassah at every turn. But Julia’s brother, Marcus, is a different sort altogether. Is it possible for a love between Hadassah and Marcus to flourish considering not only their differing stations in life, but also the gap between Hadassah’s unrelenting faith and Marcus’ lack of belief in anything?
Simultaneously, Atretes, a captured soldier from Germania, is forced to become a gladiator. This is the time of Rome’s decline and the decadence of a civilization on the verge of self-destruction serves as a powerful backdrop to the Barbarian’s struggle for survival in the arena.”

From my own personal words: Every time I read this book, The Lord uses it to convict me and to challenge me to live and love more like Hadassah. You will find Biblical characters woven throughout this fictional series, and it gives us a realistic look at what life was like for the early followers of Christ.
Each book is great, but we’ll just read and discuss the first one at our April meeting.
