I can hardly believe it, but summer, as we know it, is over this week. We take our children to school for a partial day this Wednesday, and school officially begins this coming Monday!
It’s been such a short summer for everyone around here this year. We have a modified year-round system, and will be loving it in October when we get two weeks off. But right now, it just seems too early to go back to school.
It’s been a good, but busy summer. We have crammed a lot into a little bit of time. And, we’ve had a few of those “lazy days”, but I want more!!! Waaaaaaaaaah!!! 🙂
Time is moving us so quickly through this stage of our lives. 6 & 7: That’s how many years our children will be at home with us. I’ve probably said it before, and will certainly say it again – but I want to make the most of these years at home with Nathan and Abigail. It seems like just a few years ago that we were taking our oldest to kindergarten. Now our youngest is in middle school…
I’m asking the Lord to help me prioritize my focus and my time so I can invest in what is most important. Seems like I’m always asking Him this. He shows me the way to do it, I do it for a while, then I stop. How I pray to obey Him consistently this time…
As we are waiting for the Lord to reveal His next steps for our lives, we are seeking to make the most of every moment right where we are. I’m thankful that God has shaken up “our world” a bit – it’s caused us to intentionally set our focus on Him and to appreciate each day as it comes.
Ephesians 5:15-16 says, “Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people), Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil.”
Making the very most of the time – buying up each opportunity… that’s what I’m going to be doing for the rest of the week… and I hope, for the rest of my life. I don’t want us to miss a thing God has for us. Do you?
If I don’t post for the rest of the week, now you’ll know what I’m doing… buying up each opportunity to soak in these last days of our summer break.
I’ll catch up with you soon. In the mean time, I pray that you’re soaking in the days the Lord has given to you, too.
With lots of love to you~ Jennifer

You are so on-target! My oldest son, 23, married this summer, but my youngest, 8, will be itching to fly from the next in a few years. I've made a personal commitment to finding more joy in the day, more smiles, just more love. It's different now that they're older, yes, even 8. It's a time for talking, sharing, not so much frazzling as it was when they were babies and every-minute-needy. I'm growing into having them all past that stage.
My point today is to say thanks for having such a lovely, God-focused family blog. I have a lovely blog award for you over at my site. I hope it encourages you as much as you've encouraged me! http://bluecottonmemory.wordpress.com/2009/08/01/%e2%99%a5-a-beautiful-blog-hug/

I miss you already! Wow the summer came and went quickly didn't it. Our daughter returns to school Aug 24th and it feels like it's right around the corner.
I pray and speak blessings over you and your family dear sister. Until we speak/read again…I love you.

Jennifer, soak it up while you can. You can always come to Phoenix and have hot temps in the fall. LOL.
BTW, I was so blessed this morning reading a post on Jill's Forever N Ever N Always blog. I have her button on Heart Choices. She wrote today about being joyful in the midst of struggles. Her little 21 month old daughter was at the hospital for 8 hours for tests and Jill learned lessons through her ordeal. If you have time, it might bless you too. When little Naomi gets overwhelmed, she's learned to bow her little head and ask God for help.

SCHOOL??!! Can that really be possible! If nothing else – it really is too hot for brain cells to work at school! Praying that it is a great week for your kiddos – and for you as well! Indeed…soak up every moment with them!!

I love summer too! Even though I don't have kids, I'm always a little sad when it's time for school to start back.

Oh yes, that IS rather sad news! You are so right to soak in and savor your remaining time with your kids. The older they get, the faster time will go…trust me. = ) Hope you make some special memories these last few days of summer break.
Blessings,
Tracy

Dear Sweet Jennifer,
Enjoy this sweet season of life. This one goes so quickly. More than ever your children need the love and attention of mom. Stay very aware of their peers, interests, hobbies and desires. I will pray for you. Let God take care of the big stuff and you continue to take care of the home. You are a great example to others as I have watched let go of some things in order to be there for your family. I know you will continue to do what God teaches you to do through His word. I love you.

What a nice way to refocus on the daily grind of school. We homeschool our two & have two more weeks before we dive into those waters. I'm trying to finish up last minute details and I thank you for that wonderful verse to keep myself centered.
Have a great Tuesday.

Yes, soak it up! It's over before you know it. It's sad that school will start for you soon. We have three more weeks to go. BUT… we would love an extended vaca when it's not so HOT. And it's not a holiday like Thanksgiving. So that could be great too! : )
